THE Butibam Amateur Volleyball Association (Bava) has taken the initiative to clean up the China Town Police Station in Lae yesterday.
Team manager Michael Earley-Daure acknowledged that as a local sports association, Butibam decided to take ownership by cleaning up the station as a way of community service.
“We should all contribute to addressing law and order in Lae by helping police through such initiatives. We cannot hold guns to chase criminals but we can do whatever we can to assist police,” he said.
Earley-Daure said the association would  purchase and supply several police uniforms and boots to China Town police to help them in their work.
He said Bava would also visit the Angau Memorial Hospital and Buimo prison to donate food to sick patients and inmates as another community service.
“We are trying to promote good sportsmanship by being role models in the community. Apart from sports, we are also involving in assisting the community through various activities.”
Earley-Daure said they would also wash the station and repaint it.
Meanwhile, Bava will be hosting the national volleyball championship in Lae later this year.
