Team Fiji await appeal ruling

Team Fiji chef de mission Wayne O’Connor confirmed yesterday they were awaiting the ruling of the Pacific Mini Games tribunal on the disqualification of Aaron Powell in the men’s 100m final.
Powell won the 100m final on Tuesday but was disqualified for a false start.
The medal was instead awarded to Papua New Guinea’s Nazmie-Lee Marai, who finished second when Powell was disqualified.
“The result was not satisfactory so now we are taking it to the Pacific Mini Games tribunal,” O’Connor said.
According to VAN2017 technical delegate Yvonne Mullins, Powell would have been disqualified on the spot if there was a recall starter.
However, Team Fiji athletics coach Jone Delai maintained Powell had a good start and there was not any false start involved, which was the basis of Powell’s disqualification.
