Team PNG confirms athletes for Birmingham

TEAM Papua New Guinea are set to travel to the United Kingdom on Friday for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
A total of 33 athletes across athletics, boxing, squash, swimming, table tennis and weightlifting will all be in action for the 11 days of competition from next Thursday.
PNG’s flag bearer to the Games is Pacific long and triple jumps record holder Rellie Kaputin.
Buoyed by Team PNG’s table-topping performance in the recent Pacific Mini Games in the Northern Marianas, chef de mission Michael Henao believes the country is positioned to achieve good results despite the challenges of preparing for the Games during the Coronavirus pandemic.
“The funding support of our sponsors coupled with the resilience and dedication of our athletes and officials mean Team PNG are ready,” he said.
