KUMULS coach Michael Marum, pictured, says his side was positive they would beat the England Knights despite not having several key personnel for game one on Saturday.
“There’s a lot of positives we took from Prime Ministers 13 game and we’ll take that into the games against the England Knights,” Marum said.
“We need to work on having a good first 20 minutes.”
Marum said his team had trained well after a two-week break.
The Knights, who arrive in the country on Thursday, have been in Brisbane for the past three days.
With inclusion of Engalnd-based captain David Mead and Wellington Albert, the Kumuls have an idea on the Knights. Marum said the conditions would suit his side but he would not discount a side full of Super League talent.
“The weather will be on our side but our halves need to control our sets well,” Marum.
The side’s debutants include Zev John, Brandon Nima, Dilbert Isaac, Edwin Ipape and Woods Kawage.
“These debutants are here to learn from the experience.”
Mead was wary of the English who would bring a rugged side full opf Super League talent.
“We are concentrating on our prep and we’re hoping to go out there and do well in front our people in Lae who have a lot of passion for the game,” Mead said.
