INDEPENDENT investigations will be conducted into burning of eight police houses and a vehicle by criminal elements last week in Alotau, police say.
Acting police commander George Bayagau said police would gather all documents and hand them over to an investigation team.
“The town is quite but the fear in still there among people,” he said.
A police unit from Port Moresby was deployed into Alotau last Friday.
The investigation process has started.
“There were no more death reports, apart from the four (who died during the violence),” Bayagau said.
“We haven’t received any reports of the suspects who were wounded.
“Some may have died in their hiding places.”
Bayagau said business activities had returned to normal but on alert mode in case anything flared up.
He said police manpower on the ground was intact.
Bayagau said a police officer and a boy who were injured were still in hospital receiving medical treatment.
