ORGANISERS of the Kumul Petroleum Papua New Guinea Rugby Union (PNGRU) Super Series say they are working to ensure the welfare of all participating teams who are competing in Port Moresby.
Series coordinator Paul Joseph said this after some visiting teams raised concerns over a lack of proper hospitality during the series. “It has been a challenge for the (PNGRU) office in ensuring that teams are well looked after,” he said.
“The queries raised by the provinces are being attended to.
“It’s also a learning curve for us as the organisers to improve future events.”
PNGRU said they were made aware of the issues and were exploring ways to address them.
Daru Stingrays manager Napoleon Mapo said his team were doing their best to handle the challenges.
“We’re facing accommodation and water issues at the moment,” he said.
“About four to five boys share a room.
“Water is supplied outside of the accommodation, so we don’t know if it’s conducive, safe and healthy for our players. But we’re taking it as it comes because of the love of the game.
“We understand that this is the inaugural tournament.
“So for a start, situations like this are expected to happen.”
Meanwhile, Northern manager Mansen Gawor said the lack of medical attention for injured players was a concern.
“After two weekends, some of our players are injured,” he said.
“We’ve being taking care of them ourselves by taking them to hospital and all that.
“So we’re asking the organisers to at least provide more medical support to help us nurse injured players.”
