PREMIERSHIP hopefuls Datec are one step away from the major title in the Private Companies Netball premier division after defeating Westpac 28-20 in the preliminary final yesterday.

The battle started from a convincing win over the Australian High Commission in the minor semi-final two weeks ago.

And yesterday they won the match in familiar fashion despite being without star Kimberly Rawali.

Datec now meet minor premiers Proclean in the grand final.

The bankers despite several players nursing niggling injuries were up to the task in the first quarter going into the break behind by three.

Datec led 13-10 and never looked back in the second quarter capitalising on the bankers’ inability to keep possession.

Errors kept creeping into the bankers attack losing valuable possession as Datec’s mid-court of Ati Rawali, Telitha Malaga and wing defence Emily Kafe combined well to enable shooters Mona Konena and captain Netanya Mulina to score.

Defenders Rachael Kapi and Nancy Kapi were outstanding under the ring as Westpac found the going tough.

Westpac goal keeper Notau Leka tired her best to mar her opponents chances of scoring but Datec were the better side on the day.
