FOUR teenagers have been detained for allegedly killing a student who was trying to prevent them from having sex with two girls, Northern police commander Supt Michael Welly says.
“These suspects had allegedly stoned a Bareji High School student at Kovira village last Thursday when he didn’t listen to their request to hand over his fellow female students to them,” Supt Welly said.
“The deceased was among four other students heading for their villages because there was no food at their boarding school in the Ijivitari district.”
Supt Welly said the students, two boys and two girls, left the school for their villages and decided to spend the night at Kovira village with a family because it was getting dark.
“About to sleep after dinner, the suspects from the village – one is also a grade 9 student at Bareji – called the victim out of the house and requested if he could bring the girls to them so they could have sex with them.
“However the victim declined their request and so they became angry and stoned him. “The victim them collapsed and was taken to the Kakareta Health Centre where he died.”
Supt Welly said the deceased was 17 and doing grade 10.
“The suspects, who are 16 and 17 years old, are now in police custody at the Popondetta police station after they were arrested by community leaders.
“They will be charged with murder and will appear before the Popondetta district court this week.”

  • Omg my condolence to the the victim- he is a hero!! For the animals, Castrate them too so they won’t be a problem in the future.

    • Very sad to hear that this young man who would be a future Accountant, Doctor, Lawyer or some body very important has lost his life just to save his sisters or female classmate. Provincial Education Department, Ijivitari Member and Oro Provincial Government please do something about this matter. He is a hero, why can’t special attention be given to him.

  • The victim is truely a ‘Hero’ and displays a heart of ‘Bravery’. He deserves a recognition of some sort to his family by the Authorities. May God rest his soul…

  • These culprits already taken away the life of a good person just because of their evil will,so the governing law must sent immediately to death penalty. We PNG citizens are really tired of seeing such kind criminal activities happening every now and then. “Stop” Let’s all must put a stop now to this kind of bad behaviour. Such activity create a very bad image for our country!

  • Very typical of youth livelihood around that highway area a lost society, condolences & sympathy to the family of deceased ” He is truely a HERO for the girls..sacrifice to protect the girls at all cost even unto death. The school must take procausions of the safety of students, why didn’t transport them to Popondetta for a start.. Education dept. close that school & consider Tufi LLG area to replace Bareji..??

  • Why wasn’t transport provided for students? whats the road condition like? why isnt there any food for the students? where are the education authorities? what is the local MP doing about schools in his electorate? what is the governor doing about education in Oro? In short, where are our priorities?

  • Wow, this story is alarming, 16 and 17 year olds wanting to commit rape on another student and in the process kill another male student. Does this ring a bell. To me it does, as I recall the story of Sodom and Gomorrah when the men of Sodom and Gomorrah wanted to have sex with other men even though Lot offered his virgin daughters. Open your eyes brothers and sisters we are living in this end times and when there is an increase in lawlessness, hate, murder, adultery, fornication, gay marriage, and the list goes.

  • This story really saddens me. If you don’t know where Bareji Sec School is, you won’t really know the hardships faced by students. They left school, because they were hungry…..this is so sad….
