Teens given talk on healthy choices to avoid cancer

STUDENTS need to know the choices they could make to reduce the risk of getting cancer such as restraining from drinking alcohol, smoking cigarette and chew betel nut, says an educator.
PNG Cancer Foundation (PNGCF) health educator Jacob Oburi said it was through PNG Cancer Foundation, Healthy Teens School Programme that students were made aware of healthy choices.
The healthy teen school programme (HTSP) is a school-based cancer education and awareness programme that focuses on empowering teenagers to make healthy lifestyle choices and reduce their risk of getting cancer.
PNGCF successfully conducted it’s sixth school cancer education programme this year at Porebada Primary School and will continue through the year to covering Papa and Lea Lea villages in Central.
With the support from ExxonMobil PNG in 2018, the message of making healthy lifestyle choices reached over 1,800 students through the HTS programme and has seen an increased 950 students reached so far this year.
PNG Cancer Foundation acknowledges the support and the partnership of ExxonMobil PNG, Moore Printing and Liklik National in joining the fight against Cancer in PNG.
