ABOUT 50 teenagers in Port Moresby and Mount Hagen were trained basic social and financial literacy skills through a community project.
The Links of Hope PNG delivered its ‘Community Youth Champions’ project, linking health education messages for adolescents with life experiences and presentations.
Links of Hope PNG operations supervisor Fiona Selve said: “It was incredible to see the kids so engaged in conversations in our counselling sessions and wanting to know more.
“As staff we had great opportunities to form meaningful connections with the adolescents on our Links of Hope sponsorship programme.”
Activities included first aid training, fitness sessions and swimming with the Taurama Aquatic Centre coaches and self-defence techniques with Goroka Tang Soo Do.
The week-long project from Sept 26 to 30 was funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives.
Financial literacy programmes were presented by Kina Bank and MiBank.
The group visited Nature Park in Port Moresby on the last day of the project to learn about environmental issues.
