TELIKOM beat an Australian Defence Force side 17-10 in the final of the Port Moresby Fiss-Potts Rugby 10s tournament on Saturday at the Sir John Guise Stadium.
The ADF beat Port Moresby Fiss-Potts in the semifinals to set up the final against Telikom who dispatched the Grey Hounds in their semi.
The charity event which was established in 2016, looks to raise funds for community work and awareness.
This year the funds were committed to the Sir Luciano Cragnolini Prostate Cancer Foundation.
Eleven teams took part in the tournament and team registration was K1500 for a total of K16,500.
Club president Jack Kariko said he was pleased with the turnout and money raised.
“Our view, is to create public awareness about the importance of keeping healthy and fit while being aware of prostate cancer,” Kariko said.
“Prostate cancer affects a lot of men in PNG and it is important for people to be aware of it.
“We started in 2016 with six team registered, last year we had nine teams while this year the number increased to 11 teams which is really good.
“The Australian High Commission has been supportive since 2016 by always registering a team. We had an Australian Defence Force side take part which was great to see.”
Other teams were made up of former rugby union players for the Crusaders, Valley Hunters old boys teams along with others turning out for Telikom, Grey Hounds, Oakley Warriors.
Port Moresby Fiss-Potts Rugby Club does not actively take part in competitions but its focus is on providing health awareness.
“The tournament also present an opportunity for older men to take time out, join in the fun, keep active as well as be aware of health issues that affect men.”
