THE Border Development Authority has signed an agreement with Telikom PNG to provide telecommunication services to its border post in Wutung, West Sepik.
Telikom PNG will provide voice internet and data services over its iDirect VSAT system to support the Wutung border post operation.
The infrastructure’s initial cost is estimated at K75,000.
BDA executive director operations Barnabas Neausemale said: “The Wutung pilot border trade and investment development p;roject is being sanctioned and co-funded by the Asian Development Bank and the PNG Government through the Go PNG component. The State has nominated BDA as the executing agency.
“West Sepik, despite being a border province with Indonesia, remains the least developed province in the country.
“This pilot project aims to develop the province into a dynamic growth centre and partnering with Telikom PNG for communications infrastructure is important in realising this aim,” Neausemale said.
Telikom PNG, with its high capacity network, will use its iDirect VSAT System to carry voice services via its satellite earth station and back into its Next Generation Network soft switch in Port Moresby.
Telikom PNG will ensure that the provision of its services for this pilot project will enhance the core role of the Border Development Authority in boarder development.
