Telikom has new look

CABINET has approved the establishment of Kumul Telikom – a subsidiary of Kumul Consolidated Holdings – to hold shares of Telikom PNG, Bmobile and DataCo.
It is part of the Government’s restructure of the State-owned enterprises in the telecommunication sector.
Cabinet on Dec 20 approved the transfer of KCH’s interests in Telikom, Bmobile and Dataco to Kumul Telikom at a net book value in accordance with the KCH Act 2002.
John Mangos, the former managing director of PNG Power Limited, will be Kumul Telikom’s managing director with Mahesh Patel as the board chairman.
Cabinet also approved the revocation of the appointment of Michael Donnelly as chief executive officer of Telikom PNG Limited and the appointment of Moses Tedumo as acting CEO.
All retail assets and licenses from Telikom would be vested in Telikom Mobile in accordance with the Kumul Consolidated Holdsing Act 2002.
Meanwhile, the PNG Communication Workers Union opposes the Government’s decision and called for Bmobile to be made a subsidiary company instead.
The union plans on petitioning Prime Minister Peter O’Neill on this restructure issue.
They have called for all advertisements in the media of Telikom PNG assets, land and buildings be withdrawn.
