Temporary pass for PMVs in Central

National

PUBLIC motor vehicles (PMVs) not permitted to operate on any route specified on the vehicle licence will be given a temporary pass, according to Central Provincial Road Authority (CPTA).
The pass will cost K100 each and valid for only 24 hours. Infringement fine is K1,000 and maximum fine on summary conviction is K5,000.
The authority advised that temporary pass was applicable to all PMV operators within the province and those operating within city limits who wished to travel to any highway in Central.
CPTA officer in-charge, PMV, Alf Davis said this was in accordance to Road Traffic Authority’s rules, Passenger and Good Transport Licensing, under Section 26 which stated that firstly a person must not drive or operate a PMV for the purpose of picking up or setting down passengers on any route other than the route specified on the PMV licence.
Secondly the driver of a PMV must not stop the vehicle for the purpose of picking up or setting down passengers on the route specified on the PMV except at places specified on the PMV licence.
He said all passes, each costing K100, were valid only for 24 hours. Each trip requires a new pass.
The requirements of the entry pass include formal written letter by the PMV operator to CRTA on the operator’s destination, purpose of travel, number of days of travel, PMV registration and licence, PMV driver’s permit and class Six licence, current crew permit, safety sticker and PMV owner’s ID card.
