Tendering process takes time, says official

THE tendering of government contracts takes time because of the need to evaluate the contracts and scope of works, National Procurement Commission (NPC) acting chief executive officer Simon Bole says.
Bole said this when clarifying why the state contracts took time to be awarded to contractors.
“While our people and leaders want to see government contracts awarded and delivered quickly, it is important to also know that awarding these contracts and the tendering processes are not like a letter of application where on one end, you apply for a job and expect response on the other end,” he said.
“It’s not simply like that.
“When you want to deliver a project, a road project for instance, the state will have to advertise and call for bidders.
“At this stage, government doesn’t know the value of this roads project yet. The bidders who are private contractors will have to go on site and do the scoping themselves and then submit their bids.”
