Tepend hails Kone Storm recruit

LAE Tigers coach Stanley Tepend says he is impressed with the inclusion of Jamie Mavoko this season despite the rookie halfback being overlooked by clubs in Port Moresby.
Mavoko, who was the halfback for Kone Storm in the Port Moresby Rugby Football League last year, was one of the surprise picks for Tepend’s 2021 squad.
“I was surprised that none of the Port Moresby-based teams had picked him up, we’ve had our eyes on him for the last couple of years now,” he said.
“We were still surprised at the start of the year to see him without a club, so I spoke to him and left his local club to join us.
“He’s exactly what we need, similar to Charlie Simon who we lost (to the Hunters).
“He’s getting better in each game, it’s still early times but he’s doing all the things that we expect of him, especially his kicking game.”
Tepend said Mavoko’s performance on Saturday was impressive with the former Storm pivot taking the kicking duties for the Tigers.

  • Jamie Mavako, has everything a modern halfback needs, the height, the built and the skill set to dominate. Only time will tell. Hunters and The Kumuls are waiting for you young man.

    Go Jamie Go…Purple blood
