Test matches not for ‘learning experience’

Letters

IT is insanity at its best when Kumul coach Michael Marum intends to use the international match against Great Britain as a ‘learning experience’ for some of our unknown players.
This does not add up. What is he trying to say here?
Is he underestimating the Lions or is he being intimidated by the Lions? I would rather think the guy is kidding.
This statement is not only detrimental to the future of test matches by the Kumuls but the game itself in Papua New Guinea.
His statement is predetermines a loss by the Kumuls and the usual post match apology prepared in advance. The game is where it is today through collective sacrifices of selfless people from many walks of life.
People who gave their lives to it over the years with the ultimate objective to achieve results on the field, especially international matches.
Marum is wrong if he thinks he has the prerogative to use the upcoming Kumuls test match as an experiment.
We have had more experiments done and excuses given to us by the Kumuls coaching staff for many years after losses against England, Australia and New Zealand. Marum and his coaching staff need to produce results against Great Britain and New Zealand in the interim and Australia in the long run.
This is a test match thus the people of PNG require seasoned campaigners to take the field to play a winning game at all cost.
I would expect the team that was beaten by the English during the 2017 Rugby League World Cup to show cause against the Great Britain at the National Football Stadium.
This is without prejudice.

  • Agree….no need for continuing to test. Michael Marum has had his days…PNGRL needs to turn a new chapter.
