Third edition of national 7s tournament set for kick-off

THE annual Papua New Guinea Rugby Union KPHL 7s tournament’s third-edition is set for next month in Goroka, Eastern Highlands.
PNGRU’s competition manager Laho Posu told The National that registration for the biggest 7s tournament set for May 4-5 was underway. “We’re back and set for this year’s tournament and we’re expecting it to be much bigger and better,” Posu said.
“For this year’s tourney we have K500 registration for the men’s teams and K300 registration for the women’s team. Registration is already open.
“We have a good number of teams registered and took part last year and we hoping to get more this year. Last year we had 42 men’s team and 19 women’s teams registered. Hammerheads were the champions in last year’s first leg in Mt Hagen, City Lights for the second leg in Lae, third leg was cancelled due to fighting in East New Britain.
“For this year, first leg will be in Goroka, second will be in Madang.”
