THE third phase of the cancer centre construction at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) costing K47.4 million will include the installation of electricity, plumbing work and all other engineering installations.
The contract agreement was signed by Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae, the PMGH chief executive officer Dr Paki Molumi and the Cemix Construction team who will be continuing with the project.
Dr Molumi said the third phase of engineering was a very important and critical phase for the project.
“This phase will include the complete fit-out of the facility as well,” he said.
The first phase of installing two cancer bunkers was completed in 2020 through the Government PIP funding of K8 million.
“Phase two was the structural phase where the structure was put up in which Kumul Petroleum Holdings gave K10 million for the completion of the phase,” he said.
Dr Molumi said the hospital was waiting for another K38 million from the Government to purchase cancer equipment.
“As the construction is going on, we are training the human resource so that once the cancer centre is complete and installed with equipment, we can go straight into functioning,” he added.
