STREETS of 21 centres around Papua New Guinea will be flooding with excited people in bright yellow shirts when the Trukai Fun Run takes place on Sunday.
Event organisers, the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee and Trukai Industries Limited have been preparing for the nationwide event for most of the year and are looking forward to seeing smiling faces enjoy a cool morning of a fun run for a good cause.
PNG Olympic Committee president Sir John Dawanincura said dedicated teams from both the PNGOC and Trukai had put a lot time and effort into the planning process and he was confident of another successful event.
“A lot of work has been put into ensuring that the Fun Run this year is safe and enjoyable for all and I look forward to seeing everyone in their yellow shirts on Sunday,” Dawanincura said.
He also acknowledged other stakeholders in Port Moresby and in the other centres, who had partnered with the PNGOC and Trukai to ensure that participants enjoyed the run.
In Port Moresby, personnel from the PNG Defence Force, the Royal PNG Constabulary and the Correctional Services will provide extra security and support while an army of volunteers will be on hand to guide people along the route.
National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop and Port Moresby city manager, Bernard Kipit are expected to take part.
“Everyone is encouraged to buy a 2018 Trukai Fun t-shirt so that they can be part of the big event,” Dawanincura said.
Funds raised from the sale of the t-shirts will go towards sending Team PNG to the Pacific Games in Samoa next year.
Participants are encouraged to take all necessary precautions while on the road and avoid taking short cuts using undesignated routes.
Being a Sunday, anyone who might have been out partying the night before should not participate for health and safety reasons.
Families are also encouraged to keep their children close while moving through the crowd.
