THREE men were shot dead, properties destroyed and several houses were torched in a fight between two factions over land on Friday in Kabwum, Morobe police commander Supt Alex N’Drasal says.
He said six members of the mobile squad 15 based in Lae were deployed to the area since yesterday to monitor the situation and make possible arrests.
“From reports received, the two factions were mobilising themselves to start another fight this week,” he said.
Supt N’Drasal took action by sending mobile squad members by helicopter to the fighting location in Kabwum.
“These policemen will conduct an investigation, contain and establish what really happened,” he said.
Supt N’Drasal said the fighting was actually causing delay to many developments that were are taking shape in the district as well as tensions among innocent people in communities there.
He said the mobile squad members would work with the Kabwum district administration to identify which area the fighting was going on and make sure situation was brought under control.
In another police report, Supt N’Drasal said from the many incidents that were reported to police over the last few months, police had gone to lengths to contain the situation with arrests and charges.
“In the recent murder cases at Situm, outside Lae, the tensions are still high despite some suspects involved were arrested,” he said.
He said police were deployed there to monitor the situation.
Fighting between the Sepiks and Kabwums at 14-Mile was resolved.
