Three killed, one hurt as vehicle crashes into yard

POLICE in Port Moresby have confirmed that three men were killed and one seriously injured when a car crashed into the Gordon Police Barracks compound on Saturday.
Police Traffic officer-in-charge Inspector Joseph Salle said the driver, who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol, was speeding when he lost control and drove into a police house, killing three people instantly.
The vehicle was driving from the Cornerstone Church along the Gordon Circuit.
Two people who died were high school students.
“They were standing at the betel nut market just near the road when the vehicle drove in and hit them in the yard,” he said.
Salle said the driver of the vehicle was also injured and is at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
He will be arrested and charged when he has recovered.
He said the youths lived at Gordon Police Barracks.
“I have yet to give a full report of accident and the police investigation is underway,” he said.
