THE Lae Tigers are on a winning roll and proved they are the team to watch in the Digicel Cup competition after hammering the Goroka Lahanis 34-8 at the Lae rugby league ground yesterday.

The Tigers ran in six tries with second rower Kemi Yol grabbing a double while halfback Ate Bine Wabo converted all but the last try.

Man of the match and Tigers outside centre Jason Tali scored their first, captain and second rower Sydney Fred barge over the line for their second while Conroy Matmillo grabbed the third.

Yol, who also led from the front touched down for their fourth try before flashy winger Justin Olam scored a converted try before the last one by Yol.

Spirro Mikaive was the only Lahani who walked off the field with his head up after managing the Lahanis only two unconverted tries, which reflected also their poor kicking game.

The Lahanis, who were beaten 16-4 by the Tigers in the opening round in Goroka were under pressure to avenge that loss and to prove their worth however their strong performance was marred by too much aggression leading to poor execution of sets and poor ball security.

After six rounds and with four more rounds remaining before the finals, the Tigers have won all five matches.

Interestingly the Tigers are improving in their winning margins this season with this fifth victory their biggest with a 26 points deficit against the Lahanis, after registering 16-4, 22-18, 14-6, 24-12 scores lines in the last four victories.

Having beaten all four opponents in pool two, the Tigers will try to double that dosage against arch-enemies in Enga Mioks come the following Sunday in Lae.
