THE Lae Snax Tigers continued their trial matches over the weekend with more emphasis placed on defence, says head coach Noel Zeming.
The Tigers hosted Unitech Spartans at the Lae Rugby League Oval on Saturday as part of their preparation for the 2024 Digicel ExxonMobil Cup season.
Zeming said the first game between Unitech Spartans 1 and Tiger Black was a close-contested match, however, Tiger Black were too strong for Spartans defeating them 28-16.
“The trial match was a good challenge for my boys, and I have seen our weaknesses and strengths and that’s what we will be working on for our preparation for our first game,” Zeming said.
Tiger Orange dominated the second match against Unitech Spartans 2 with a 30-12 win.
Zeming said Spartans 2 were strong in defence and dominant from the start, but their efforts were not enough to outclass Tiger Orange.
“Tiger Orange forward pack’s experience paved way for the fast outside backs to pile points adding up to thirty points,” Zeming said.
Zeming said this was their last trial match and he would cut down the squad from 40 to the final 30-man squad.
