KONE Tigers moved a step closer to securing the Port Moresby Rugby Football League minor premiership following their 22-4 A-Grade win over Kone Storm on Saturday.
Under skipper Dobi Michael, Tigers remain unbeaten after scoring four tries through Michael Tongia, Eves David, Joe Steven and Junior Manda at the Oil Search National Football Stadium.
The Storm, with Mark Kerowa leading their pack, were able to break through 20 minutes into the second half with substitute Willie Bire scoring an unconverted consolation try.
Saturday also saw second-placed Paga Panthers settle for 8-8 draw with Hohola Flies.
Flies prop Jimmy Sole barged his way over for a converted try 15 minutes in but Paga responded through winger Brendan Bigam on the left edge with five-eighth Stanley Martin converting for a 6-6 scoreline.
A penalty against Flies saw Martin make no mistake with his conversion for an 8-6 lead at halftime.
The pressure continued into second half until Flies halfback Edward Eka managed a penalty conversion to end the game on even terms.
Meanwhile, the league administration said the clubs fielding Digicel Cup players would soon have disciplinary action taken against them with the final round of matches to start this Friday.
“We are collating information about which (Digicel Cup) players have been playing in our competition,” league administrator Meke Maino said.
“We will deliberate on the matter in a delegates meeting before we go into the first week of the finals.”
