DIGICEL Cup defending champions Lae Tigers, sponsored by Lae Biscuit Company, paid a late Mother’s Day visit to women inmates at Buimo Prison recently.
Company digital marketing manager Winifred Worealevi said the visit was supposed to be done on Mother’s Day (May 10) but the Covid-19 state of emergency (SOE) had delayed them by a week.
“We also donated 250 cartons of biscuits. Giving back to the community is what motivates us to visit mothers in prisons as they are part of the community,” she said.
“I hope our donations help mothers here in their rehabilitation programmes so that when they leave prison, they can be part of society and not to feel neglected.”
Buimo Correctional Institution commanding officer Chief Superintendent Judy Tara thanked the Tigers and the company for visiting women in the prison.
She said the recent suspension of visits due to the SOE had seen families advised against seeing their loved ones in prison.
Tara said the Tigers’ visit had brought some joy to the women inmates.
Lae Biscuit Company, through the Tigers, has visited the prison to make donations previously.
Apart from Mother’s Day, the last visit was during Easter where they donated 100 cartons of noodles while spreading the message of hope among prisoners.
Meanwhile, 100 cartons of Snax noodles were given to Beon Prison, Madang, during the SOE.
