THE Lae Snax Tigers thumped NCDC Port Moresby Vipers 28-4 in their Round 4 Digicel Cup match at the National Football Stadium yesterday.
It was all one-way traffic in the second half when the Tigers stepped up a gear and out-played the home side. The Lae men took an 8-0 lead into the break and never looked back putting on another 20 points with the Vipers only managing to punctuate the second stanza with a try.
The Vipers, who were able to beat the Hela Wigmen 12-8 last round, found the Tigers a decidedly harder proposition.
The Tigers crossed the line five times through Sonny Wabo, Towari Kenake, Joshua Lau, Mark Tony, Jokedi Bire and Kenake with Kenake kicking three conversions and a penalty goal.
Kenake’s effort earned him the man-of-the-match award.
Bire, the son of former Kumul prop Ben Bire, broke through the Vipers defence to score out wide late in the game.
The first half was a scrappy affair with neither side able to maintain possession long enough to launch any meaningful offence but the Morobe side still managed two tries.
But the cream finally rose to the top in the second half with the Tigers coming to life with youngster Lau crossing in the 46th minute.
The Vipers got on the board in the 56th minute through halfback Karis Peter.
Then the visitors posted the next three tries.
