Tigers see off Muruks in testy encounter

THE LAE Snax Tigers held off a rejuvenated PRK Mendi Muruk 8-4 in their Round 3 Digicel Cup match in Lae.
The game was marred by a brawl in the second half as the Muruks showed their frustrations with referee Max Simon.
The homeside scored through centre Tiger Emere but halfback Towari Kenake failed to convert for a 4-0 lead.
The visitors after coming off a 2-0 win over Enga Mioks last round pressed the action led by captain Abel Rami and equalised 4-4.
In the second half the Muruks conceded a penalty which saw the Tigers edge ahead 6-4.
Kenake and fullback Sonny Wabo were the best for the home side.
A fight broke out in the 53rd minute after a dangerous tackle was made on a Tigers’ player.
The incident incited the crowd who threw debris on the field.
Muruks centre David Lapua and Tiger’s Rex Yallon where sin binned while Solomon Nandape (Muruks) and Amos Kafare (Tigers) were send off.
The match resumed and the Tigers kicked another penalty goal after fullback Robert Vuai was held down to long in a tackle.
The hosts held on to their 8-4 lead to the full-time siren.
The Tigers are second on the ladder with 6 points three wins behind the Gurias also 6 points.
