EROM Tigers registered on Tuesday to take part in next month’s Magi Highway Nines rugby league tournament at Kwikila in Rigo, Central.
Vanapa-Brown River Rugby League nines champions Tigers are keen to test themselves in the tournament following their success in the Kairuku-Hiri league.
“The Tigers were the winners of the Peter Isoaimo Cup last year and are a strong side from the Hiritano Highway and they want to be a part of what we are doing in Kwikila,” Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League Southern Confederate director Gwaibo Mairi said.
“Vanapa-Brown River is an affiliated league under the Southern Confederate and we’re happy to have our district neighbours within the province show interest.
“The Tigers have become a strong side with a rising player base from youths in Goilala and surrounding communities.
“It’s hard not to invite teams like them as they add value and competitiveness to the game.”
The tournament will see up to 30 sides taking part as the confederate prepares to launch competitions for its leagues in Central, Gulf, Northern and Western.
The confederate will also be pushing for associations to adhere to their Covid-19 protocols for competitions while running the Magi Highway Nines.
