Tigers will defend Cup: Andy

LAE Tigers captain John Andy believes his side are capable of defending the Melanesian Cup when they face Fiji champions Ravoravo Rabbitohs at Churchill Park in Lautoka tomorrow (2pm kick-off, PNG time).
Andy said the side were fully aware of the pressure and taking on the Sabeto-based Rabbitohs on home soil would not be an easy task despite having an unbeaten record in Fiji.
“We believe in our boys and we have been training hard and going through a process like simple things and putting in the effort,” he told FBC News on arrival in Fiji on Wednesday.
“The boys are also looking forward to this match and we are not taking the Rabbitohs lightly as they are a better side to.”
Tigers coach Stanley Tepend said after eight weeks of preseason training in preparation for their Digicel Cup title defence, the game would be their first hit-out of this year.
“We are ready and know what we want to achieve against the Rabbitohs,” he said.
“We know they (Rabbitohs) are bigger than us so our focus is going through the middle and turning them inside, making them work hard for every possession.
“We are keeping it really simple, making sure we maintain discipline and complete our sets.
“We know we can do the job and know how we want to play.” – FBC News
