Tigers will test Dogs in Popondetta

 POPONDETTA rugby league competition early pacesetter M4M Bulldogs unbeaten streak will be tested by Hoppl Tigers in round four on Sunday.

Bulldogs are unbeaten with three straight wins on six points followed by Oro Cross Back Spiders (formerly Sangi Hawks) four, Medix two and Hoppl Tigers yet to register a win after round three.

In the first round Bulldogs held off the Tigers in a close affair but this will be a different challenge.

Tigers veteran Amos Maino, Da­mien Tau and blockbuster Maika Wamp spearhead the team from the Kokoda highway after three failed attempts to register win.

Bulldogs George Abba, Manson Gawor and Samuel Keko engineer the Popondetta town team to maintain its unbeaten run.

In the other encounter, a new-look Oro Cross Back Spiders, in their new uniforms courtesy of Steven Kila Pat, Are to tame Medix. Since the donation of the new jumpers the team morale and spirit in the camp has been high. 

A bumper crowd well over 2,000 has so far witnessed the challenges every weekend at the Popondetta rugby league oval.

The opening fixture is the Under-19s and followed by the B grade.

Association president Anko Vamage reminded all players that registration was due by this weekend, seniors K40 and juniors K30, with the club affiliation fee of K500. Vamage said the Popondetta rugby league oval would be officially opened by the Oro Governor Gary Juffa next month.

He said Juffa made it possible with funding.
