Time to control internet usage

Letters

I THINK communicating on social media platforms such as Facebook doesn’t mean sending messages to people we don’t know.
It is for the ones we know well.
I find social media to be great in helping me find my friends, especially friends from school, relatives in other places, sharing ideas, quotes, make new friends and much more.
But there some bad things that we can avoid.
I see that most problems are related to social media.
Social issues such as marriage problems, arguments among people, fighting and bullying are becoming frequent in the country.
Men are looking for women on social media.
Many users use fake accounts with aliases and pictures of other people and objects.
Just the other day, I saw a post by a girl that said a man (named) was persistently asking for her phone number but she refused.
She took screenshots that the man sent to her and shared them.
The pictures contained nudity.
People have created many Facebook groups to exchange nude pictures and videos.
Whenever they upload pictures, they say: “I have pictures and videos of this lady, give me phone credits and I’ll send them to you”.
Phonographic materials are now on Facebook.
Even kids who don’t know anything about sex are exposed to such explicit content.
People are using social media to spread unsubstantiated allegations to defame others.
There is no control on internet usage in the country.
The National Information and Communications Technology Authority (Nicta) is almost acting as if it is blind.
It doesn’t look into such issues.
They’re using public funds without any impact to the country.
We need Nicta to control internet usage.
They have to stop people from creating groups to exchange explicit content and block fake accounts.
