Time to manage waste properly

Letters

WE need a proper waste management system in the country.
We are dumping different types of waste into bins, which I believe is not right.
City and town authorities should ensure there are different bins for different types of waste.
On the other hand, workers who collect and dispose waste are exposed to germs and other hazardous substances because most work without proper protective equipment.
The landfills in Port Moresby (Baruni Dump) and Lae (Second Seven) practise open burning of waste, causing huge pollution to surrounding environment.
This practice has become a serious health and environmental concern to the public.
The waste generation in both cities is expected to increase in the future given high population growth and the economic boom.
Waste generation trends are challenging and becoming a real concern for Papua New Guinea.
