TIMING is of the essence to complete the demarcation process in fixing the Ahi council administration boundary under the Lae district before next year’s general elections, prominent Morobean Benson Nablu says.

Nablu was referring to boundaries overlapping seven wards within Nawaeb Urban catered under the Ahi local level government and six wards in Wampar Urban in Huon Gulf.

The political-administration boundaries of Huon Gulf and Nawaeb have overlapped 13 wards over the years.

The wards include Malahang, Busu-Poasang, Poahom, Limki, Kamkumung, Poasum and Suko (NawaebUrban) and 5-Mile, St Joseph Tech, Awilunga, Bubia, Busanim and Yalu village (Wampar Urban).

The Morobe Sam Sewe (provincial executive council), by virtue of power conferred under section 28 of the organic law of provincial and local level government (OLPLLG), endorsed a provincial boundary committee (MPBC) to assess and redefine the wards boundaries.

The refining of boundaries will allow customary landowners to form incorporated land groups (ILG) and work in partnership with government and investors for the development of Lae city.

“Timing is important to complete the ward demarcation process to allow the tutumang (provincial assembly) to deliberate and ensure the Sam Sewe endorses and submits to  seek National Executive Council approval to refer the wards back to Lae and Ahi,” Nablu said.

Nablu assured six Ahi villages that having clearly defined boundaries would allow landowners to discuss and define their customary land boundaries, ensure incorporated land groups (ILG) acquire titles and work in partnership with stakeholders for socio-economy activities.
