TEACHERS at Daugo Primary School at Fisherman Island have been urged to give their best to students in class.

The message came from Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko who travelled by boat together with delegates from the Australian High Commission and PNG Forest Product to open two new double classrooms funded by Australian aid.

“As your MP I am using your money as well as partnering with donors to provide quality education for our children in Moresby South,” Tkatchenko said.

Tkatchenko, who is the Minister for Sports and National Events, reminded teachers that with most of the schools in the electorate including Daugo having quality infrastructure, they should now make use and give all they have to the students.

“We are focused at giving our children the best education possible by improving learning environment which you are an important part,” he said. “Teachers play an important role. You must educate them with all you’ve got as you are the ones who will determine whether they progress to the next level.”

He urged the community to take responsibility and committed to ensure the new facilities remain as they are without graffiti or any form of vandalism.

He appealed to the Education Department to look after teacher’s welfare like decent accommodation and other incentives.

“Teachers standards must be improved so that they bring their standards up and improve their daily teaching.”

Tkatchenko said he is serious about the education of children in Moresby South and is improving the standards of the schools.

“Most schools have been in devastating stages but we are now improving them to very quality standards because our focus is for our children in Moresby South to get quality education and become better people in our community and country.”

He challenged teachers to step up and teach students to the level that is required and reach their full potential.
