Too many cooks spoil the soup

Letters

THIS is a letter in relation to the sudden influx of assistants for Kumuls coach Michael Marum.
It seems there is a coach overkill, with several coming to his assistance this year, in particular, and all coming from one part of the country.
The PNG Rugby Football League needs to clearly spell out the roles or terms of reference of the assistant coaches.
In the NRL and other major international teams, assistant coaches are brought in to assist in specific aspects of the game.
For example, assistants are appointed to coach defence, attack, backline or forwards.
What are Marum’s assistants there for? Are they understudying him?
There is an old saying which says, “Too many cooks, spoil the soup”.
I hope this is not the case and the Kumuls’ poor performance in Lae to second string England Knights last weekend is not the beginning of the decline in the gain made under Marum to date.
I hope Marum is not intimidated by all the assistants around him, which may impair his level of concentration and work as head coach.
I would prefer Michael Marum be totally responsible for the Kumuls and Hunters and also have a major say in the selection of players because he has done a wonderful job to date without the help of assistants.
