AFTER a successful campaign in the OFC Champions League, Toti City FC have now refocused their attention on the National Soccer League.
The Peter Gunemba-coached side will be facing FC Morobe Wawens tomorrow at Lae’s Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium.
“After the OFC tournament the boys have now switched their attention back to the NSL,” Gunemba said.
“Qualifying to the OFC Champions League quarterfinals had inspired the boys and now it is up to us to maintain that high standard of football that we have been playing.
“Every team in the NSL will now want to beat us so we have to take all our opponents seriously and use the NSL matches as lead-ups to the OFC Champions League quarterfinal.”
Toti FC will be missing the services of Solomon Islands international Tutizama Tanito who has returned home to concentrate on his studies.
“He was really worried that he won’t be playing with us in the NSL after we returned from the OFC Champions League but then his studies are a priority for him,” Gunemba said.
“He has given us assurance that he will be able to join the team when we play in the OFC Champions League quarterfinal and if we make it to the NSL grand final he will be available too.
“He played so well for us in the OFC Champions League and scored the only goal against Fiji that got us to qualify for the OFC quarter finals.”
Meanwhile, the other NSL match for the double header in Lae will see Besta PNG United go up against Buang FC who are yet to register a win in the competition.
Port Moresby soccer fans will be given a treat as FC Momase take on Southern Strikers at the Bisini soccer oval. Strikers coach Margaret Aka said they will be seeking revenge against the side that beat them two weeks ago.
“I’m hoping the boys can improve this time around from the mistakes we did the last time we played Momase,” Aka said.
“We let ourselves down last time and we hope not to do that again and we have been addressing that during training. The main area of the game which needed to be sorted out is our defence up in the middle and we hope to improve on that specific area this weekend.”
