The tournament will be held for the next four days as teams from Markham, Finschhafen, Ngasuapum, Situm, Busu, Sipaia and Kamkumung – among other areas – compete in the annual event.
Meanwhile, captain Michael Saun scored from a corner-kick to give Team BataBy their second win of the tournament. They beat Zilu Scientific West 1-0.
Taking part for the second time, the Saun-led team started their campaign with a 4-1 win over Busii on Wednesday.
Yesterday, the team continue their momentum with another win over West to lead Pool B.
“Some of our senior players who played in the first game didn’t show up for the second match, but it didn’t stop our rookies from continuing the winning momentum,” Saun told The National.
“In the last tournament, we had players like Obert Bika, George Korei and others. But, a number of them a no longer with us, so we had to field new talents and they didn’t disappoint us. We are confident of reaching the finals.”
