Tough policing needed in Madang

Letters

I EXPRESS concern over the alarming increase of murder cases in Madang.
Gruesome murders have occurred frequently in the Transgogol area.
The recent cold blooded killing of a police officer in Madang is more than enough to sound an alarm on the poor state of policing in the province.
It gets worse with the recent road block at Naru, killing a crew and a passenger from a PMV bus travelling to Lae from Madang.
These incidents got me questioning the integrity of policing in the province.
I understand the government is facing funding shortages in all state owned enterprises and service providers, thus we cannot blame the police.
But there should be strategies in place by the Police Department to restore normalcy and assure public’s safety going forward.
Police in Madang say they are trying their best to safe guard the interest of the people, businesses and services in the province with whatever resources available to them.
They should re-think their strategies and do something different or the murders will continue.
The actions of a few perpetrators paint a bad picture of the province and its people.
I am sure every citizen in Madang will be raising the same concern because this doesn’t seem normal.
I suggest investing in police intelligence in the province for police to be better informed on how best to utilise its resources.
