TWENTY teams have expressed interest to participate in the second Lae Biscuit Company-sponsored 2021 Toti Cup in two weeks’ time with prize money of K10,000 on offer.
The tournament will run from Feb 10-14 at the Lae Football Association grounds, according to the Lae Biscuit Company Ltd sports director Idris Kumbruwah.
Kumbruwah said on Monday that registration per team was K500 and would close on Feb 5, five days ahead of kick-off.
He said a large number of teams had shown interest but organisers had set the limit to 24 teams to compete for this year’s Toti Cup and the opportunity to be scouted by Lae City FC.
Kumbruwah said this was the main tournament to scout new talents into the City FC and the opportunity was given to non-affiliates of the PNG Soccer Association as well as remote rural talents.
So far, two teams from Yangoru-Sausia in East Sepik have confirmed their participation according to team manager Edward Hagoria.
Hagoria said two select sides were currently training for the Toti Cup in Wewak following the successful staging of a lead-up tournament last month.
Kumbruwah said marginalised communities on the fringes of the city were invited to participate as well.
All registration fees must be deposited into BSP Lae branch: Account Name — Lae Biscuit Company Ltd; Account No.100 1460 782.
Teams managements can confirm payment with Kumbruwah on Digicel mobile: 70696534.
Lae City FC are NSL defending champions having won the title six times.
