PAPUA New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority will be the major sponsor for the 2010 Rugby League Four Nations tournament, which kicked on Saturday with New Zealand beating England 24-10.
Yesterday, the Kangaroos gave the Kumuls a 42-0 hiding.
This is the first time PNG has been involved in the Four Nations so on top of the honour it bestows on PNG rugby league, the sponsorship from PNG tourism provides a major coup for the nation and an unprecedented opportunity to promote PNG as a tourist destination to the top rugby league nations and the world.
“With the sponsorship, PNG Tourism Authority are showcasing the potential of our great country to the vast audience, both live and on television, that will be viewing the games,” TPA chief executive officer Peter Vincent said.
“The Kumuls have achieved wonderfully by winning the Pacific Cup. They had to play off against other strong Pacific Island nations Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and the Cook Islands for their spot at the Four Nations. This is an opportunity for PNG tourism to also show our support to the team.”
As part of the sponsorship deal, PNG Tourism receives exclusive use of the designation “official tourist destination of the 2010 Four Nations” and the title of “official sponsor of the 2010 Four Nations”.
