More trade leads to more wealth, says Rudie Filon, first counsellor and head of political press and information section of European Union (EU) to PNG.
He was speaking during the symposium on Trade-Related Assistance Programme Phase 2 in Port Moresby last week.
Filon said EU had realised that it was important to enhance the wealth of a developing country so that it could stand on its own.
“Of course, we are talking about money,” he said. “We have to make sure that it is fairly and equally distributed. That will eventually lead to reducing or eradicating poverty.”
Filon also said that European Union had invested in this project because it believed that the benefits of this project could be trickled down to ordinary Papua New Guineans. “We recognise the definite economic trade potential that PNG has with all its natural resources that it’s blessed with,” Filon said.
He said EU was here to help PNG reach its potential and help it participate effectively in global trade.
