TRAINER Pipi Kilori says he eager to use his experience as a former Gulf rugby league player to help propel Isou to the top-six finals of the upcoming Digicel Cup season.
The Iokea villager retired from the game in 2015 and spent five years sharing his knowledge with rugby league clubs in Port Moresby.
“I joined Isapea (now Isou) from offseason side Maganis in 2011,” Kilori said. “In 2015, I decided to retire and train younger players.
“So I got involved as a trainer in offseason and suburban competitions.”
Kilori told The National that it was an honour to be recalled to the club as a trainer.
He said Isou had made a wise decision to appoint the former SP Hunters halfback Roger Laka as their head coach for the upcoming season.
“The club is excited to have Laka,” he said.
“He has a wealth of experience in the game.
“He is humble and open to all the players and staffs.
“His appointment has prompted huge improvements in the side.
“So hopefully we have a stronger season this year.”
Meanwhile, the 34-year-old warned that it was important to remain focused despite Isou recording positive results in their pre-season trial matches.
“Our players are all for the cause,” he said.
“They just need to improve their commitment towards training.”
