BASIC life skills training enable people to improve their livelihood which the Malaysian Association of Papua New Guinea (MAPNG) is proud to support, says Ivan Lu.
Lu, who is chairman of the MAPNG fundraising committee, spoke at the Servants of St Joseph Talleres de Nazaret Training Centre (TNTC) graduation on Friday where MAPNG also presented a cheque for K40,000.
Empowering communities through skills development was the theme of the programme which saw 35 students graduate after two months of training, 15 with basic sewing certificates and 19 with basic cooking certificates. Two were young males.
Lu said MAPNG has allocated funds from its yearly charity fundraising for TNTC since 2002 when they learnt that it had been doing a great job.
He said MAPNG fundraising events were organised since 2001 and for the last 19 years more than K10.3 million was raised and distributed to more than 30 charity organisations, including disasters in the Highlands and islands.
“We hope that through our fundraising and contribution, this centre will continue this kind of training, a very meaningful training,” Lu said.
He told the graduating class that whether you cook or sew for your family or business, apply whatever you learn to help yourself, your family and your community.
“We all have to appreciate the sisters who have volunteered to help train and pass their talents to you.”
