TRAINING for provincial election managers and returning officers begins today in preparation for the general election.
Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato, pictured, said the training was to prepare the election managers and returning officers to accept nominations from intending candidates once the writs were issued on April 20.
“PNG is ready to go for election to elect Parliament,” he said.
“We are ready to deliver the election because our planning and preparations under our strategic operation plan and the national logistics plan are all on target.”
Gamato will open the Momase regional workshop in Lae while deputy commissioner corporate services John Kalamoroh will open the New Guinea Islands region training.
Deputy commissioner election administration Simon Sinai will open the Highlands regional workshop.
Gamato said there had been some changes to the positions of returning officers but they were dealing with those “case by case”.
He said appointments had been made and would be gazetted this week.
Gamato urged election officers to “uphold the Constitution, do you job honestly and diligently”.
“People will count on you (election officers) to deliver a free, fair and safe election,” he said.
