A FOUR-day orientation workshop for local level government leaders at the Vudal University’s Oro campus in Popondetta finished at a high note two weeks ago.

The workshop is the second in the country after Gulf and is to orientate elected and appointment members of LLGs and provincial assemblies on their roles and responsibilities as mandated leaders.

The workshop was organised by the Division of Policy and Planning of Northern administration in conjunction with the Department of Provincial and Local Government Affairs and the office of Vision 2015.

Officers from the Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs were the leading facilitators, with input by other government line agencies like Vision 2015, Office of Rural Development, National Department of Health, Finance and Treasury, Office of the Attorney-General and Ombudsman Commission.

The workshop was the first of its kind in Northern, Tufi LLG president, Jaff Taua.

He said it was an eye opener for more than 200 participants who attended.

“I now understand the importance of our roles and responsibilities as well as the laws governing the functions of the LLGs,” he said.
