Training prepares farmers to manage cocoa business

COCOA farmers in the Raicoast district of Madang recently completed a training to help them manage their agriculture activities as business entities.
The training was funded and facilitated by the Australian government and Australian Centre for International Agriculture Research project from January 15 to 18.
Ten model cocoa farmers were identified were identified from villages along the coastal pipeline and in Astrolabe Bay and Transgogol.
The four-day training covered technology to improve cocoa production, pest control, inter-cropping and weed control.
Under the cocoa development project, 22 sites in Madang have been identified for its implementation over five years.
It is five-year project from 2016 to 2020.
It has been trialed in Madang, New Ireland, East Sepik and Chimbu.
