HAELLA Oil Transport are the women’s soccer champions after defeating Workshop 2-0 in the Haella Soccer Association grand final in the New Britain Palm Oil Ltd (NBPOL) area, West New Britain.
Haella Oil Transport scored a goal in the opening half and another in the second to seal the match.
Under humid conditions, Haella put on an attacking plan with superb ball control in the midfield by Jacinta and Pitil Makele, and Lyeen Nilmo.
But they met strong resistance from Workshop’s Rachael Mandaro and Pauline Viren.
It was in the 11th minute when Transport caught their opponents offguard to score the first goal to lead 1-0 to the break.
Workshop came back strongly looking for an equaliser but Transport denied them every opportunity. They found a brilliant chance to level the scores but pushed the shot wide.
With time running out Transport struck again with their second goal that saw their fans celebrating. Kimbe Didiman Stoa business manager Jimmy Joseph sponsored the grand final with the cup, individual trophies, jerseys and T-shirts.
Numundo group manager David Tan said the initiative would ensure young people showed their skills and talents so that they could excel in the sport.
