TRAVELING by road between Ramu and Madang has been made more difficult by the washing away of a section of the road near Hau Creek.
Those mostly affected are betel nut traders in the Highlands provinces transporting their produce from Madang.
Regular betel nut trader in Goroka Peter Kelaga said travelling along the road had become risky especially at night.
It is also costly as locals demand payments to pull the vehicles through the damaged sections of the road.
Kelaga said he faced difficulties in transporting his 10 bags of betel nuts to Goroka through a by-pass road created at Hau Creek on Wednesday night.
“A by-pass was constructed by the Works Department to allow vehicles through but the culvert used is rusty and may not stand heavy flooding and debris that may continue to flow during flooding,” he said.
