THE Port Moresby Nature Park ensures that animals under its care have their teeth regularly checked in order to maintain good health.
A male goodfellow’s tree kangaroo named “Teine-Tane” had his annual check-up at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal PNG (RSPCA PNG) which included his teeth being checked and cleaned by veterinarian Clara recently.
Animals need to have a healthy diet to ensure healthy gums and teeth that last a life time.
Most animals do not get cavities because their diets are not high in sugar.
They also chew on harder and rougher materials than we do, such as bone or tree bark, which help to keep their teeth clean.
Every animal has its own dental problems and quirks.
One thing is sure, no matter who the teeth belong to, man or animal, healthy teeth are important.
